The Use Visualizations to Create the Life You Want

Using a daily regimen of visualization along with meditation requires two separate steps. The first is the way of reception, commonly referred to in the Dao as Yin. While relaxing, images should be allowed to come and go through the mind without picking or choosing. Allowing the thoughts to come and taking the initiative to accept them as they are is the first step to truthful and powerful visualization. The second step is an active form of visualization. Consciously picking images and ideas that are desirable allows the mind to act out and feel the goals that have been set by affirmations. Both of these methods eventually become second nature and allow the subject to use them at will or even without his knowledge.

Some may encounter problems with visualization in the form of fear of the self. The ability to look into oneself and have no fear of what there is to find is actually a somewhat rare gift. It is usually something that must be overcome and practiced before it is completely workable on a regular basis. A mental block can sometimes result without mentoring and the best way to defeat it is to visualize at a slower pace and use the image of a relaxing and calm place that is desired or exists in the past. Detail is the key at this stage, and one must imagine the “happy place” with every remembered scent, colour, and feeling that came along with it. Fears are only born of the things that are not confronted, and, once they have been faced, are usually defeated with the greatest of ease.

Process of Visualization

1. Set Your Goal
A goal that is believable must be chosen in order to ensure that the feeling of real possibility is accomplished. This must be something that could and should happen in the very near future if it is properly pursued. This kind of guideline can help avoid negative thoughts that distract the subject from himself, and attract positive feelings of success that are supposed to come from visualization. Something that is desired like a thing, occupation, or even a behavioural goal. With more visualization experience, more complicated and lofty images can be conjured to solve greater problems.

2. Create a Clear Idea or Picture
Present tense, as stated above, is the key to success when involved in meditation. Images should be produced as things that are already existing in reality, rather than hopes and wishes. The creation of a clear idea comes with specific details such as colours, feelings, sounds, and even smells. The five senses are the best source of a realistic picture. For fun, drawing a picture of what is actually desired can be a successful, albeit childlike, method of visualization. Sometimes the more childlike methodology can garner a strange success that stems from the wisdom of simpler times. Using images that one has created on paper can create a kind of stored sense of peace that can be looked at and re-used later.

3. Give it Positive Energy
Thoughts about a specific goal must be kept positive. Picturing oneself working to accomplish a predetermined goal that is special and important is encouraging. The best forms of meditation are something like becoming a cheerleader for the self, using affirmations to assure that the goals are within reach. Negative feelings must be removed from the mind and any doubt cleared with present tense ideas. As people grow, goals will change, so the only generalized sense of success that can be obtained is found within positive energy. When setting new goals for oneself, remember that every new goal can be changed without accomplishment, since it will not do to simply get stuck on something that will never be. Once a goal is accomplished, however, it is not correct to simply be satisfied and move on. It should be a celebration, a great day, and even commemorated. Working hard physically and mentally towards a goal that is finally completed is the one, true affirmation that sets up a positive habit. Success is the best motivator and promotes more achievement than anything that one can do with visualization.

Meditation and visualization is not the end of positive thinking. It is something that should be thought of every single day and not always while meditating. Positive daily affirmations and mental peace are great ways to pass the daily activities. If these thoughts manage to become a habit, goals will always seem to stretch closer and closer to reality, until nothing at all seems unreachable. An open mind is really the ultimate goal of any meditation enthusiast. It is important, however, not to obsess over one’s goals. Over-visualization and embellishment of ideas creates expectations that can only end in defeat. The most important skill of the seeker of peace is the ability to let things go.
